ACTIVITY DIRECTIONS:
1. Visualize your family: parents, brothers, sisters, grandparents, holiday celebrations, clothing, songs, musical instruments,
2. Visualize your favorite outdoor setting: plants, animals, groundcover, weather conditions
3. Visualize your family interacting with a friend's family--a friend from a different culture from yours
4. Take a picture In your minds eye.
5. Look at the picture: who is there? Where are you? What are you doing? What are you talking about?
6. Look at the photo now for the shapes and colors of the people places and things in it.
7. Imagine how you would draw this photo out onto a piece of white paper--starting with the biggest shapes working down to the smallest details, i.e. heads, bodies to eyelashes and buttons on clothing.
8. Go to your table and recreate what you have seen in your mind's eye/imagination.

QUESTIONS (ASKED BY TEACHERS):
What is you happiest time In your life? Where were you? Who were you with? What were you doing? What were you feeling, thinking, seeing, touching, smelling, hearing, tasting? Do you think you can re-create that feeling more often in you own life? How would you do that? Once you learned to create happy times would you want to share those experiences with others? How might you go about sharing what you know?

MATERIALS:Newspapers, tempera paints in low plastic containers with lids
Brushes: small, medium and large with short handles; White Construction Paper (12" x 18"); Cluster tables for 4-6 students to share paints. Putting out 1/2pt.low, clear plastic deli-containers half full with tempera paints in red, blue, yellow, orange, green, purple, brown, black and white with a range of brushes in each color makes the activity easy to set-up, clean-up and re-use for future painting projects. Students share all colors and brushes at each table. (No water fur students under the age of 12.)
